Why? I wouldn’t have a Problem with it being so expensive if my Party was getting one shotted so easily by enemies 5 lvls below them. They don’t think it be like it is, but it do.

Fun fact: I did a little search online trying to find how much WoW cost when it came out in 2003, and found the following link. The pricing model is actually very close to FFXIV: $40 for the first pack, $15 for monthly fee, $40 per expansion. Remember it was 14 years ago, so even a 2% inflation rate would cause a 30% increase in pricing.
Other online games like Battlefield, CoD, or DotA don’t require such stupid fees and some of these are even more popular than FF XIV. None of which have large, persistent worlds meant to contain hundreds if not thousands of players at the same time. None of which give out free content updates every three months.
The monthly fee is worth it. They always add in new content. You get a really long personal story that constantly gets new content and the game is just good. This game is great for the casual mmo crowd because the Dungeons and Raids are really quick compared to wow. I still love wow but I primarily play Final Fantasy now.
Final Fantasy XIV Online (a.k.a. FFXIV) is a subscription-based MMORPG, which means it requires a purchase of the base game, the expansion pack, and a subscription. There is also a free trial with no time limit, but which has a level cap and some social restrictions. More details on that in a bit.

Can you play all the expansions in Final Fantasy XIV for free?
Unlike some games, expansions in FFXIV are linear, meaning you cannot play them out of order, or play any of them without completing the base game first. Because they’re linear, Square Enix will always include all previous expansions for free when you purchase the most recent one. In fact, they don’t even sell the earlier expansions on their own.
