The game starts the same way after launching form the browser. The only difference now is the game redirects to their website first, then starts the game from there. And this happens after the game got a 2.5 GB update of some kind.
From a security perspective, it seems to be actually quite a bad idea for every game’s launcher to tie itself into your browser. Without this tying: If the launcher code has a vulnerability, it’s unlikely to be triggered because the server has to send a malformed response (usually the launcher opens the connection, as users tend to be behind NAT).

Do server browser. The more you limit your search the more matches you find. At least that’s the way it seems to happen with me. Be sure to favorite servers so you don’t have to search over and over. Also, I don’t know why they did the whole web browser thing either.
I unchecked that box and then using IE 11 I tried launching a game from battlelog. This time it offered the plugin installer which I allowed to run and then my game launched like normal. Since all of the latest browsers don’t allow plugins anymore IE …
