I know this was a week ago but if anyone finds this thread off google with the same question and needs to know (or if OP still does!) -Pause, then go to Options, then go to Controller Mapping, and set one of your controller buttons to “Toggle Chat” (it can be one that’s used for something else – I did my map) Press that button in game and voila.

I found a fix for this. If you are on Windows, go to you documents folder and find the BF 2042 settings folder. Do to this quickly, hit windows key + R and paste this in: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Battlefield 2042\settings. There should be a file called “PROFSAVE_profile”. Open the file in Notepad.
