While I couldn’t try it myself so far, as far as I know it actually works similar to dropping flares: When you see the knifing animation, try hitting X to attempt countering it. If you time it right, you can knife the person trying to knife you, however I’m not sure how/if the actual attacking angle plays into this (which might be true).

Aggrobiscuit 8 years ago #5. There are side attacks that look like frontal attacks, that’s probably the isssue. Additionally, getting side attacks is a bit too easy atm, all you have to do is rush into someones face and then turn slightly. You don’t have to be at their side to do it, just slightly so.
As far as I know, you can counter a counter-knife attack but it is a really precise action in a very short time window. The animation should be a “punch” after a prompted counter-knife animation. Please keep in mind that I am not a developer and that Answer HQ is not the right place to demand an official statement regarding game mechanics.
