There are 13 chapters, but don’t worry about finishing later. Once you beat the game, you get to advance in your crystal thing. It’s weird but you have to beat the game if you want to fully upgrade your characters. Once you finish you get the option to save the game, you should save the game so you can keep that last upgrade.
